On our silk soft 100% cotton, 300 count percale pillow cases are embroidered with the villa initials. They join our ultimate quality, embroidered towels (see December news item further below) and such items are a further reminder that you are staying somewhere thoughtful, unique and extra special.

Fresco was the art form that the ancient Greek civilization used for the interiors of villas and palaces. Our own unique and free-hand twist on such fanciful impressions now adorn the first floor bathroom at Villa Kalliopi.

On the sun terrace, the large wooden pergola that enhances the outdoor seating and dining space has superbly finished sail cloth coverings that are weaved through the beams. Complimenting this is are three sets of drapes for heightened glamour - creating a distinctive Bedouin flavor. Decorative hanging votive lamps and a beautiful nazar amulet ball (featuring the "blue eye" protection charm) embellish this special space.

A contemporary glass table, an exquisite silver tray and a luxurious new rug for the living room all keep things fresh. (left) A antique Greek neoclassical pottery bust stands ready to be worked into a brand new creation we have planned for late 2010....so watch this space....

A pot with a specimen Bonsai (left) and new cacti pot (right) have been mixed within the barbecue seating area. (center) Krokalia mosaics, created by the owners, tribute the extraordinary pebble designs found on the island.

More planted Greek urns, large and small, have been added in April this year creating further impact.

Another free-hand fresco, this time with the artwork in zesty oranges, reds, yellows and greens ornate the ground floor cloaks and wet-room.

In Greek Mythology the seahorse was known as a hippo-campus and this recent gift now takes its place on the first floor veranda.

Our love of contemporary continues but the allure of more traditional fabrics is too tempting not to use, albeit occasionally. The word used is "Transitional" - the mixture of Traditional and Contemporary furnishings. And it works! Embracing an individualized room with furnishing styles mixed is something we now much prefer. One style rarely satisfies and can be in danger of offering bland living. It would be a crime to ignore all the stunning traditional styles and colours that Greece is renowned for and we feel it is important to give our guests a taste of such things.

(below) This old piece of drift wood, found on the shores of Ladiko beach on Rhodes, has the unusual marking of a cross seemingly burnt into the wood. Some added artwork of golds and blues enhances the curiosity.

With many new exotic plants added to the garden we were delighted to have "Angels Trumpet" flower within days of planting.

Earlier in 2010 we made a number of exciting changes that are detailed below....
Image:
DECEMBER 2009:
One of the main factors of every holiday is good accommodation and we know that it must offer and deliver an unforgettable stay for guests. The danger with any private villa rental is that owners could rest on past success and / or initial outlay and become less inclined to maintain or enhance what they offer. With our proposal, partly with this also being our private home for some months of the year, we understand that maintained quality is an essential prerequisite and that our guest expectations must always be exceeded. Nothing must ever appear tired and enhancements are always on our agenda...
When we returned to the villa in late 2009 work commenced deciding on how we could make things even nicer for 2010. Some enhancements were pre planned over several months, and some other alterations were more spontaneous. The results are shown below, for all our future guests to enjoy....
This is also an opportunity to reward all of our many returning guests, who will be able to see, first hand, the changes we have made since they first visited. The fact that so many of you have wanted to return without even knowing what we planned next is gratifying, and we hope you all enjoy yourselves in 2010 (and 2011)....

With delicious Greek appetizers, grilled vegetables, freshly caught fish and succulent restaurant quality steaks all potentially on the menu - the outdoor barbeque has now become a real event and also an essential luxury self catering requirement. So we thought it was time to react to this and expand greatly our barbeque area at Villa Lindos Kalliopi.
Now built in with our main Greek chimney barbeque are, either side, low stone walls that curve into a striking half moon shape. This barbeque station provides masses of food preparation space and also extra sociable seating for guests, and the budding chef, to gather around and enjoy the sizzle of the grill!
Image:
Guests will find this barbeque area nestled within lush exotic planting and up lit trees. Hanging votive lamps provide extra night time illumination and the floor space is made up of a striking traditional Krokalia mosaic pebble floor. All combined, this area has become a simple and beautiful place to sit around, day or night, enjoying your own attempts on mastering Greek cuisine.
So chill the champagne, season the steaks and share this exceptional grilling experience with family and friends!
"Kali oreksi" (..that is Greek for "Bon Appetit")!

Found in the pools of many fine hotels and prestige homes - we have now had a luxury "Baja shelf" (pronounced bar-har) added to our private swimming pool. This oversized first step into the pool now allows guests to choose between taking a full swim or merely relaxing on this magnificent ledge without getting either too wet or going too deep. Lounging on the Baja shelf seat is also ideal for younger children or for those who are not keen swimmers but don't want to miss out on the supreme relaxation the 8m x 4m overflow pool offers.
A second, smaller width step is below the Baja shelf, allowing easy, sweeping access stepping down into the pool. Fully tiled, the steps add a whole new dimension to our offering at Villa Lindos Kalliopi.

For the stunning sun terrace area we have now extended in width and height much of our feature ornamental stone walls. Our locally sourced stone walls are now presented as even more of a statement. Beautifully built they add much grandeur - the vernacular architecture of the stone has very much a traditional Rhodian feel, whilst at the same time it creates great impact with a striking contemporary appearance.
Image:
Image:
The contemporary intention is taken further at dusk when carefully positioned up lighting adds atmospheric warmth to the walls. The up lit stone transforms this terrace into something intimate, unique and extra special. The most perfect outdoor living space for our guests to savor.

You would be hard pushed to find something that is more characteristic of Rhodes than the hundreds of thousands of olive trees that grow in the mountains and valleys across the island. In 2007 we began with one olive tree in our then infant garden - by the end of 2009 we have now added a further eleven! The allure of the olive tree has been considerable for us both - the pale green leaves shimmering in a warm breeze, the crop of olives ready for picking and also the trees sheer symbolism in mythology and religion make the olive tree far more deserving of just one place in our garden. Some of the new olive trees added have been used to compliment the increase in stone walls at the villa. One area in particular is used as a line of carefully manicured olives, an avenue that takes you from the pool terrace, beyond the lawn area and to the precipice of the views across Vlicha Bay.

Image:
Taking the luxury offering several notches higher we have new fine cotton sheets for all beds. And for the bathroom ultimate quality, Turkish cotton bath, hand and face towels. They are the thickest and most absorbant towel available anywhere. 900 grams of the finest cotton yarn. To add to the exclusive feel we offer and deliver - each towel is emblazoned, with gold stitch, with the emblem of the villa - a nice reminder that this is not a basic, generic villa rental, but something that is treated as extra special.

With our standards already set high and widely praised by our guests we are still striving to maintain and continually improve on what our guests will have at their disposal during a stay. For 2010 we have added many beautiful extras - some essential and some decorative. Items such as the nickel plated sea food platter tray (below), a gorgeous champagne basket, new bedroom lamps, a striking new coffee table, a new full length bedroom mirror, chrome hand soap dispensers in each bathroom and a general upgrade on some of appliances and equipment! In short everything designed to keep the villa fresh and interesting for our guests to enjoy.

Image:
With the new Baja shelf added to the pool, new counter-tops around the barbeque, the striking architectural wall features and the greatly accentuated ambiance of the up lighting all combining to extend the outdoor enjoyment well into the evening - it is worth pointing out what such new additions are joining on the terrace....
Our spacious pool terrace enjoys the full dramatic views of Vlicha Bay, the Mediterranean sea and sweeping countryside. Lush planting surrounds the pool and barbeque areas, ornamental pots, a large pergola with sail cloth cover and attractive high-quality outdoor dining furniture, imaginatively designed sofa and armchairs. All aspects create a seamless transition from the inside to the outside, helping to define and continue the space as an extension of the boutique features of this villa.
For 2010 the outdoor sofas and armchairs have been ameliorated with the incredible beauty and vibrancy of a collection of Persian silk cushions. The hot pinks and alluring purples of the cushions are enhanced further by the deep blues and sparkling greens of the sea you gaze over to....
Our extensively equipped kitchen and dining materials, all of excellent quality, complete our offering for exceptional outdoor living and dining - in a setting that is hard to beat anywhere.

We are also delighted to confirm that we will be continuing our association with Kim Roberts of Savvaidis & Associates Property Management. For two seasons now, Kim and her team have received considerable, regular praise from our guests for the excellent standard of clean and level of service that is delivered. Kim understands our desire for a property management service that matches the high standards we have set and expect at the villa. As owners we are keen to forge a working relationship with a property management company that lasts. It is testament to the quality of the work Kim and her team deliver that we are able to maintain a consistency, year in year out, that keeps things tightly under control, allowing a service that pleases us in the first instance, but, most importantly, pleases our guests. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Kim and Savviaidis & Associates Property Management into 2010.
